Merseyside police have made a decision on Manchester City's bus route into Anfield ahead of their blockbuster game against Liverpool on Sunday.

Liverpool host Man City in the standout fixture of the Premier League this weekend.

The Anfield meeting is a top of the table clash as Liverpool lead the way, one point clear of Man City, who beat Manchester United 3-1 yesterday.

It will be raucous occasion in the red side of Merseyside, with local police put on 'high alert'.

According to The Daily Mail, Merseyside Police will place 'extra focus' on Man City's bus route into Anfield.

It comes after there have been a slew of attacks on opposition coaches.

However, the Blues will take the usual route to Liverpool's ground for Sunday's showdown.

Man City's coach has previously been targeted with missiles launched by Liverpool fans. They were under attack ahead of their Champions League tie back in April 2018

Manchester United's bus was also hit and damaged when they visited Anfield last December as a supporter threw a glass bottle at the club's vehicle.

The rivalry between Liverpool and Man City has intensified over the years, with the two clubs battling it out for the league title and other major honours.

Police have been in dialogue with both teams ahead of the big match, with Chief Inspector Kevin Chatterton, match commander of the game, saying they have a 'robust' plan in place to prevent any trouble.

"We have been working closely with the two football clubs and supporters’ groups for this Sunday’s match at Anfield," he said.

"As with every football match we have a robust policing in place.

"Any disorderly behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will take action to identify and bring to justice anyone found responsible for committing offensive and disorderly behaviour."
