Judging by the statistics from last season in the Premier League, Manchester United have a serious defender on their hands in the shape of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

United have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign the 21-year-old in a deal worth £50 million.

The Reds have tabled a long-term contract with wages up to £80,000.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been hellbent on snapping up Wan-Bissaka and the talented right-back's numbers from last season suggests why the Norwegian boss was so intent on signing him.

Wan-Bissaka leads most defensive stats following a superb campaign in England's top flight.

He has the most clearances, most tackles won, most take-ons completed, most interceptions and the highest tackle success rate.

Former United right-back Gary Neville has backed the signing of Wan-Bissaka.

"He's a massive talent and the club, to be fair, have always signed young, emerging British talent," he said about the England U21 international.

"I don't think that should change and it would seem to me that the club would like to go back down that route and he is one.

"The price is always going to be big because clubs are wise now to it, you can't pinch players off clubs for £5m or £6m.

"They are wise to it and have the Premier League funding of £100-odd million so they don't need to panic, they don't need extra £5m or £10m - they want £50m or £60m.

"Leicester will be the same for (Ben) Chilwell and Maguire or (James) Maddison. All these mid-tier clubs won't let players go for £5m, £6m, £8m, £10m now."

If the deal is sealed, Wan-Bissaka will be United's second signing of the summer transfer window after Daniel James joined from Swansea City for a fee of £15 million.

Wan-Bissaka is set to slot straight into the starting XI following Ashley Young's abysmal season.
