If Rafa manages this, it could be one of the signings of the summer.

Newcastle United fans have waited patiently for their club to splash the cash this summer. Atsu, Manquillo and Lejeune have signed on permanent deals, but a big name has yet to really excite the Geordie supporter - until now.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live's Football Daily podcast, Spanish football writer Pete Jenson believes the Newcastle boss wants to sign Real Madrid forward Lucas Vasquez.

Jenson states that Newcastle are currently 'exploring the possibility' of bringing the 26-year-old to St James Park this summer.

Of course, the 57-year-old briefly managed the talented Spaniard during his short spell at Los Blancos, and he clearly feels that Vasquez can bring something different to the recently promoted Newcastle.

Vasquez impressed for Madrid last season, scoring eight goals in all competitions, but the 26-year-old struggled to make Zinedine Zidane's starting line-up during 'big games' in both La Liga and the Champions League.

The above has reportedly left him frustrated at the Bernabeu and a move to the Premier League could appeal to the Spain international.

Newcastle have been linked with a flurry of names this summer, and one of the biggest names to find himself in the gossip columns is Sporting CP striker Bas Dost.

Dost, who scored 34 goals in 31 league appearances last season, has been linked with a number of clubs in the summer window, but it seemed Newcastle were trying to make things concrete.

Back in June, Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias, via Sport Witness, reported that Sporting rejected a €40m bid for the Dutch striker.

The Portugese side insist that a club must pay Dost's €60 million release clause if they want to prize him away from the Estádio José Alvalade.

Dost, who has made 15 appearances for the Dutch national side, was outstanding in last season's Primeira Liga and clearly Rafael Benitez viewed him as the ideal target man after achieving promotion to the Premier League.

But it seems Benitez has turned his attention to Real Madrid's Lucas Vasquez.

Would he be a good signing for Newcastle ahead of the 2017/18 season?

Let us know.
