Manchester City have Jorginho on their list of targets but manager Pep Guardiola isn't taking any chances and has put a second name in place, in case a deal with the 26-year-old falls through.

Astonishingly, it's very possible that the Citizens could outspend their previous summer of £225 million this transfer window.

Last summer saw three wing-backs come in to Eithad, as the club mounted an unprecedented title victory, breaking the record of most goals scored and most points earned in a season.

But in Europe, City fell short once again; they were knocked out to eventual Champions League finalists Liverpool in the quarterfinals.

And so Guardiola wants a defensive midfielder to solidify the middle of the park and he sees Jorginho as the perfect fit.

But Napoli and City are tussling between themselves and they can't find middle ground on a gap of about £15 million, according to local publication Manchester Evening News.

The whole ordeal is winding the Italian midfielder and his agent up no end. They are growing frustrated at the situation and are looking for a quick move over to the Premier League, with Jorginho desperate for the transfer to happen.

So, in the scenario that the deal collapses, Guardiola is being shrewd and has put Nice's Jean-Michael Seri in as a secondary target. The midfielder was heavily linked to North London clubs Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur last summer after putting in some decent performances in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons.

The Blues have been eyeing up Seri for six months now and are prepared to close in on the 26-year-old should they and Napoli fail to reach an agreement in due course.

They may have to fight off competition, with Chelsea and Arsenal also after his signature.
