Lionel Messi’s Father Responds To Rumours His Son Has Decided To Join Manchester City

Messi's father has hit out at the fake quotes.

Lionel Messi's father has confirmed La Nacion's audio clip about his son's "confession" is fake.

Messi had been quoted as saying "the cycle is over" and his decision to leave Barcelona "hurts his soul."

The Argentine outlet had also claimed he said: "I have taken the decision with Antonela (Messi's wife) to leave Barca,

"It hurts my soul, but that's it. The cycle is over.

"I will speak with Pep so he can sort out my move to (Manchester) City."

However, Jorge Messi has hit out at their story, stating that it's not his son giving those quotes.

"Hello LaNacionCom. This is fake. The audio does not exist. It's an imitation," he wrote on Instagram, accompanied with La Nacion's story which features a photo-shopped image of Messi in a Manchester City kit.


Messi's father, though, neither denies nor confirms the rumours about the 33-year-old leaving Barcelona and moving to Man City.

The Blues are reportedly in pole position to sign the six-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Further reports claim the Premier League side will meet with Messi's entourage next week to discuss a potential transfer.

But Man City face competition from fallen European giants Inter Milan who're also keeping tabs on the Argentina international.

And the superstar forward's former agent Josep Maria Minguella believes he'll pen a deal with the Serie A club.

"For me, Messi already has a team: Inter," he told Cadena COPE via AS.

"In Italy they pay less tax, and in fact, there is Cristiano Ronaldo. It's harder for me to see him in England, no matter how long his friend [Sergio] Aguero and [Pep] Guardiola are at City."

He added: "Now in Italy they are trying to revitalise the world of football with great signings and with these advantages in the advertising contracts of the football players.

"What Barcelona has to do is rethink its situation. If with Leo Messi they didn't know where the team's course was going to go, imagine it without him."
