Reports are emerging that Alexis Sanchez is in advance talks over a return to Barcelona, with Inter Milan ready to let the Chilean leave on loan.

Sanchez initially joined Inter on loan in August 2019, before making the move permanent a year later, but could now looks set to leave the San Siro.

The 32-year-old has been used sparingly by Simeone Inzaghi this season after making just two starts in Serie A this season - the most recent of which came against Cagliari on Sunday, as he scored his first league goal of the campaign in a 4-0 victory.

The Manchester United flop enjoyed a much more successful spell in his first three-year spell at the Camp Nou, winning a La Liga title, a Spanish Cup, two Spanish Super Cups and one Club World Cup.

The Mirror revealed that they identified Sanchez as a potential option to replace Sergio Aguero, who sadly announced his retirement on Wednesday due to a heart problem.

Meanwhile, Luuk de Jong is currently on loan at Barcelona from Sevilla, and his parent club are "happy" to let the him change clubs, according to SPORT.

This means that De Jong could be part of a swap deal involving Sanchez, with the Dutchman heading to the Nerazzurri.

But Sanchez will be focused on gaining more game time in Inzaghi's side for now, as they take on Salernitana on Friday.

Inter head into the game sitting top of Serie A with 40 points from 17 games - one clear of cross-city rivals AC Milan, in what is turning into a pulsating race for the title.

Just four points separate Napoli in fourth, in what could be a four-way tussle for the Scudetto this season.
