Joe Rodon has been encouraged to leave Tottenham Hotspur in a bid for regular football by his national team boss, Robert Page.

The Wales international has only played once since Antonio Conte's appointment as Spurs boss in October, and is now being encouraged to move on for pastures new.

"Joe is an unbelievable talent and rightly so got a move to a big Premier League club in Tottenham," he said in quotes published by The Sun.

"But now he understands he might have to move on and play games of football because we want our best players playing week in, week out.

"Then when they turn up and play against the Belgiums of this world, if they are playing in the Premier League week in, week out then it's not a culture shock for them.

"They are used to the standard and the movement of [Romelu] Lukaku or the physicality and demands that top class football brings.

"That's where we want our players."

The 24-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from the likes of Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion, and would be reunited with former Swansea City boss Graham Potter if he moves to the south coast.

But Rodon's focus remains on Tottenham for now, with Conte's men in line to host Crystal Palace on Boxing Day.

He was an unused substitute in the 2-1 Carabao Cup quarter-final victory over West Ham United, as Spurs set up a semi-final meeting with Chelsea.

Rodon's prospects of earning a start at the weekend look bleak, given that he has yet be named in a Premier League starting line-up this season.

It will be interesting to see if Rodon does get a move away next month.
