Timo Werner produced an utterly shocking miss for Chelsea from six yards out this evening.

The former RB Leipzig striker has found his form for Chelsea in recent weeks, notching seven goals in his last eight appearances in all competitions.

He's been incredibly sharp for Frank Lampard's side but came up with a finish you'd expect from 'Big Dave' for the Dog and Duck on a Sunday rather than a Champions League game against Rennes.

After combining with Cesar Azpilicueta, Callum Hudson-Odoi delivered a superb cross that was right on the plate for the German but he got it horribly went, inexplicably leathering his effort way over the bar.

Just look at how high the ball rises in the air. It was genuinely nowhere near the goal.

Werner, with his hands on his head and buried into the netting, was in complete disbelief as to how he had not put the ball in the back of the net and sadly for him we're looking at a miss of the season contender.

After the horrendous miss just three minutes in, Chelsea did go 1-0 up in the 22nd minute through Hudson-Odoi.

In a goal made in the Chelsea academy, Mason Mount played through a glorious defence-splitting pass to pick out the winger, who made no mistake with the finish.

Serhou Guirassy struck for the hosts five minutes from time but just when it looked like the spoils would be shared, Olivier Giroud popped up with the winner in the 91st minute and ensured Chelsea qualified for the last 16.
