There's A Few Surprises In The England Team To Play Germany

The next chapter in the England vs. Germany rivalry is tonight, with the Three Lions travelling to Borussia Dortmund's Signal Iduna Park to play the 2014 World Cup winners.

And the England team to start to the game appears to already be out, nearly six hours before kick-off.

It's fair to say that even for a friendly, there are a fair few surprises in the England side that we will see take on Germany tonight.

For starters, Gareth Southgate is experimenting and if reports are accurate, has gone for a three at the back system.

The formation has worked wonders for Antonio Conte's Chelsea this season and it seems as though Southgate is giving it a bash tonight.

Captain Gary Cahill has benefited greatly from having two central defenders alongside him at club level and now he will play under the same system for his national team.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling and Burnley's Michael Keane, making his England debut tonight, will make up the back three.

Kyle Walker and Ryan Bertrand will provide the width as wing-backs, while Eric Dier and Jake Livermore will sit deep in midfield.

Livermore, who signed for West Brom for £10 million in January, has been away from international football for five years and his first game back in the fold will see him come up against the current world champions.

Adam Lallana and Dele Alli will support solo striker Jamie Vardy in attack.

Team in full:

Hart, Walker, Cahill, Keane, Smalling, Bertrand, Dier, Livermore, Alli, Lallana Vardy. (3-4-2-1)

As expected, the team line-up has provoked plenty of reaction on social media:

What do you make of the side Gareth Southgate has picked?
