Senegal were knocked out of the World Cup in the most cruel circumstances, with Japan progressing from Group H into the knockouts because they had two less yellow cards than Aliou Cissé's side.

Due to the two sides boasting identical records, having drew 2-2 with one another on Sunday and both winning 2-1 and losing 1-0 in their other two games, it was Japan who pipped Senegal to the second spot courtesy of the four play ruling.
