Santiago Solari made a bold decision to drop one Real Madrid star after reports suggest that he is overweight.

Los Blancos defeated Sevilla 2-0 on Saturday, but the 42-year-old Argentine left out one of the team's regular starters.

Journalist José Ramón de la Morena appeared on El Transistor and suggested that Marcelo had been dropped because of his weight.

Solari opted for Sergio Reguilón as his full-back choice, leaving the 30-year-old left-back on the bench.

However, Morena has claimed that Madrid's doctors found that Marcelo weighed six kilos above his set target.

While the Brazil international is having a tough time at the Spanish club, Solari singled out one of his players for praise: Luka Modrić.

The Madrid boss called the 33-year-old midfielder, who won the 2018 Ballon d'Or, a "warrior."

"Modric was outstanding for us in this game," he told Marca (via Football Espana).

"In the context of him sustaining a heavy cut on his eye, when he had to spend the entire of half-time getting it fixed, he was magnificent.

"He is a warrior in this team and scoring the goal at the end typifies his spirit and determination, everything that is good about the team, he put in a complete performance.

"This was a very difficult game against a Sevilla side who defend very well and have played at a good level all season, we knew it would be tough to break them down.

"There are many occasions when it does not feel like the ball will go into the net, but we had to show our belief and attitude to ensure we did not drop point.

"We have a lot of players injured, returning from injuries and periods of being unavailable, so this was a difficult proposition for us.

"Last week, we won at a difficult stadium too and now we have a run that we will want to keep going because this was a victory over a direct rival."

Where will Madrid finish in La Liga this season?
