These are tough times for Barcelona. OK, so their squad is still the second best in La Liga and with a few big signings they could easily still go onto lift every trophy possible, this season, but without Neymar or an adequate replacement for the Brazilian, the Blaugrana were distinctly second best to Real Madrid over both legs of their 5-1 Spanish Super Cup defeat.

The European and Spanish champions ran rings around Ernesto Valverde's men for the second time in less than a week, last night, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema. And the gulf in class between the El Clasico rivals was not lost on Barca defender Gerard Pique.

Pique has infamously shared a hostile relationship with Los Blancos, being that he is the walking, talking embodiment of Barcelona and is hotly tipped to be a future president of the Camp Nou club.

Often outspoken towards the Blaugrana's deadly rivals, Pique resigned himself to admitting his team's inferiority to Zinedine Zidane's men, last night.

Speaking after the match, the former Manchester United defender said, "We are not in the best moment, as a team or a club.

"This a long process and there is room for improvement. We must stay as close as possible and keep moving forwards."

But Pique's words when he was sat on the bench following his 50th minute substitution were far less measured and a lot more foul mouthed as the Champions League and World Cup winning defender completely lost his rag with how his team's performance.

Pique's rant was reportedly along the line of, "We're standing around while they dance around us. Motherfucker! What a cleaning they're giving us."

The 30-year-old will be hoping recent Β£40 million arrival Paulinho will be complimented by another couple of big money signings in the next couple of weeks as Barca look to close the gap on Real, who looked miles ahead of the Blaugrana in terms of quality over the two legs of the Super Cup final.
