England manager Gareth Southgate has reacted to Germany exiting from the 2018 World Cup.

The defending World Champions have been dumped out of the World Cup.

Germany needed a result against South Korea, but failed miserably. A 2-0 defeat sees them crash out of the tournament.

Unlike England who have already booked a spot in the next round with one game to spare.

It's the first time since 1966 England have gone further than Germany at a World Cup.

And the man guiding England's campaign, Gareth Southgate, has addressed Germany's miserable outing by rubbing salt into their fresh wounds.

"In this tournament they've been ahead for a minute-and-a-half of their three matches. It's been unusual to see them struggle as much as they have."

Just over a minute. That's how long Germany have been ahead in their three matches. Incredible.

Joachim Low reacted by admitting his side didn't deserve to progress to the next round.

"We didn't deserve to win the World Cup, and we didn't deserve to move into the last 16," he said.

"We were eliminated today not because we didn't want to win, but because our team wanted to win as you saw, but we never had a chance really to take the lead at any point.

"Those past years since 2006, we've been in the final four, the final, or even won. But this time round we have to say we didn't put in a performance like normal. We have to accept that. The disappointment of being eliminated is huge.

"Where do we go from here? We'll have to go from here. It would be premature for me to say anything at this point, but we will talk calmly about it."

Meanwhile, Germany departing the competition at the group stage continues a bizarre trend of winners failing to get out of the group in the following World Cup.

We haven't even reached the knockout round but this World Cup has been something else.
