Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to take the opportunity to voice his appreciation for the players, the staff, the fans and everyone associated with Manchester United during an incredibly emotional final interview.

The Norwegian manager, who took over at Old Trafford in December 2018 after the sacking of Jose Mourinho, was relieved of his duties on Sunday morning following the club's disappointing 4-1 defeat against Watford.

After almost three years in charge, Solskjaer decided to deliver a departing message to everyone associated with the club. It was an incredibly moving and emotional chat.

The club's official Twitter account posted two clips of the interview. As you can see in the footage above, Solskjaer is moved to tears when speaking about first-team coach Michael Carrick.

He also opened up about the chat he had with United's squad at Carrington training ground on Sunday morning.

"As I've said to them this morning as well, trust yourselves, you know we're better than this," he says. "We've not been able to show it but go out, chest out, enjoy being a Manchester United player, Champions League, the biggest stage.

"If and when you win the game, you're through to the next round, Michael [Carrick] is going to be in charge. Michael, I have the utmost respect [for], I love Michael to bits.

"I'm becoming emotional now because he's top... they'll be fine. I'll watch them and support them."

In the other clip, the 48-year-old opened about managing his dream club.

"I'm so honoured and privileged to have been trusted to take the club forward, and I really hope that I leave it in a better state than when I came," he says.

"I've made great friends, I've reconnected with some great friends, new staff coming in I've become really good friends with. The other staff that was here when I was there, we're good friends and we have connected and that's what it's about at a club like this. With the fans, the fans have been amazing.

"From day one at Cardiff until the last one now. [They've been] top, and we'll see each other again."

After he spent the morning saying his goodbyes to players and staff at Carrington, Solskjaer bumped into a Manchester United supporter on the side of a road - and told him that it has been an honour to manage his dream club.

The Norwegian then climbed out of his black Range Rover to embrace the fan.

"This hug is from all of us who stuck by him." wrote Twitter user @lukesellers98.
