Premier League Televised Matches Set For Change That Will Annoy Fans

Fans watching on TV might be very happy about this but away fans going to games won't be happy with the Premier League.

It might be a couple of weeks since domestic football came off our screens but there isn't a single one of us missing it right now. But plans to put more football on the box in England might annoy fans.

Never has the lack of football been more painful than during an election campaign that seemed to be fought almost solely by people who have never had an interest in politics in their lives posting constantly on social media for either side.

The same happened last year with Brexit. It all just proves that we struggle as a society once the week-in-week-out flow of league and domestic football leaves us for the summer.

So you'd have thought that the idea of more football would excite the average fan. With prices for TV sports packages constantly going up to the customer the idea of getting more bang for your buck when TV deals are negotiated for the 2019/20 season should be exciting.

However according to The Times the Premier League will be negotiating for a deal that will include Saturday 7.45 pm kick offs in the Premier League as they look to televise at least half of the 380 games a season.

The move would doubtless annoy fans with 5.30 pm kick offs and evening weekday kick offs difficult enough to get home from without the addition of the late weekend kick-offs.

Currently BT Sport and Sky Sports split the showing of 168 games-a-season between them but the league is hoping to up that to at least 190 and possibly to closer to games in three seasons time.

As well as the real issue there's the annoyance of games clashing with those in Spain. Image: PA

Head of BT Sport Simon Green wants the league and the clubs to go ahead with the idea to increase the amount of matches and agree to the 7.45 evening kick off time.

Big La Liga matches often kick-off at 8 pm on Saturday and that would also be a clash for the Premier League.

A decision will be made in Autumn when clubs vote on whether to accept the new kick-off times.
