Mesut Ozil has posted a defiant message on social media after being left out of the Arsenal squad for their Premier League game against Manchester City.

Ozil, 31, was omitted from the 22-man squad which Mikel Arteta selected for the trip to the Etihad on Wednesday.

The Arsenal coach says the German midfielder was not picked due to "tactical" reasons.

Ozil has now reacted to Arteta's snub with a message on Twitter. He wrote: "No matter what ... #M1Ö @Arsenal," accompanied with a picture of himself grabbing the club's badge.

Needless to say, his post sent Arsenal Twitter into meltdown.

One social media user wrote: "We are sorry you have to deal with this bullshit, you're an Arsenal legend who should've won the PL way back but we were too lazy to build the team around you. You wasted your prime here and you get the slander you don't deserve."

A second tweeted: "King. You'll be back, no doubt."

A third added: "Love you always."

Without Ozil, Arsenal lost 3-0 to City and speaking after the game, Arteta explained his decision to leave Ozil out of the travelling party.

"It was a tactical reason," he told reporters after his side's league defeat.

The Spaniard continued by saying: "I'm going to select the players for the day that we believe as staff that are the best for the day and that's it.

"Everything went wrong from the first minute. Every possible accident that could have happened hopefully happened today."

On the injuries, he added: "If they were muscular injuries, maybe yes. But these ones I don't think so."
