Manchester United were heavily interested in Portuguese star Renato Sanches before he opted to reject them in favour of Bayer Munich.

The Bundesliga giants beat United to the acquisition of the 18-year-old after penning a five-year-contract from Benfica for a fee of £35.6 million, and Nani has admitted he did indeed snub Old Trafford;

"But he had a choice - and the choice he made was Bayern Munich. I hope he has made a good choice and that he is happy in his career, but I think United will now know what a big player they have missed."

The former Red suggests his compatriot would of been a great signing if he had joined;

"Renato would have been a great signing for Man United. I have no doubts."

The highly-touted youngster made a brilliant impression in Portugal's quarter-final tie against Poland as he leveled the score with a wonderful strike firmly announcing his arrival on the international scene, who's impressed Nani;

"Renato is a very confident player. He is very young, but he already has a great personality for the game. He isn't scared to play in the big games and he isn't scared to show his qualities against any opponent. It is good to see another young player want to be a star and to achieve his dreams. You must be like that. You can't be afraid of anything, and he isn't."
