Jurgen Klopp may want to start shopping for a new centre-half after it was revealed Mamadou Sakho could be facing a lengthy ban for failing a drugs test.

The French defender was discovered to have traces of a fat burning substance in a sample he gave to UEFA after Liverpool's Europa League tie with Manchester United. The Reds have ruled Sakho out for selection until a 'B' sample has been analysed but, if found guilty, the length of ban that such an offence carries is usually between 6-12 months but, in some cases, as long as two years.

Sakho's Liverpool teammate was infamously suspended for six months in similar circumstances during his time at Manchester City in 2011. Sakho's chances of representing France at Euro 2016 will vanish should UEFA find him guilty, while Liverpool will of course be without the centre-half for the semi-finals of the Europa League against Villareal, a headache Jurgen Klopp could do without with Jordan Henderson and Divock Origi both ruled out with season ending injuries.

Sakho is the only one liable for any punishment in the case, however and Liverpool's place in the Europa League isn't under any threat, no matter what the outcome of the investigation.
