Liverpool fans are grateful.

Oh how Liverpool fans would love Luis Suarez to be at Anfield now. The Uruguayan has taken his game to another level in Spain, helped maybe a little bit by the fact he's flanked by Lionel Messi and Neymar. The Reds have a surprise player to thank for their time with Suarez.

With Suarez in their team the club came within a Steven Gerrard slip of winning the Premier League as he not only did things of brilliance on his own but he also brought out the best in Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, Gerrard and all those around him.

Speaking to ESPN the former Ajax striker revealed that it was then Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez was the player who inspired him to go to the Premier League and show off his skills:

"I would watch him and I would think, "If Carlos can do that, why can't I?" He is tiny against all those defenders."

Despite a difficult start to his career in England Tevez scored seven goals in his first season in the Premier League which helped the club avoid relegation, not that Sheffield United are too pleased about it, before scoring 15 league goals in his first season with Manchester United, helping them to a league and Champions League double.

With City the Argentine striker scored 58 goals in 113 games and won the club's first ever Premier League title as well as an FA Cup.

Suarez scored 69 goals in 110 league appearances for the Reds before moving to La Liga. This weekend the former Ajax striker is likely to win the top goalscorer award in Spain as he sits four goals ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo with just one game left.

The last player to win La Liga's top scorer award and not be Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi was Diego Forlan and it's an incredible achievement by Suarez to bag himself the award, as long as CR7 doesn't score four more than him this weekend.

Barcelona are also in the driving seat to win the title and Real Madrid need their rivals to lose to Deportivo la Coruna to have any chance of pipping them to the league trophy.
