Following an excellent second season in the Premier League in which N'Golo Kante won for the second year on the trot, this time with Chelsea, the Frenchman picked up three high-profile individual accolades in the form of the PFA Player Of The Year, Premier League Player of The Season, and the FWA Player Of The Year.

Kante has been an integral part of what could be a double-winning campaign for Antonio Conte and his troops, breaking up play superbly and giving the likes of Pedro, Eden Hazard, Cesc Fabregas and others the platform to strut their stuff.

His all-action, energy-packed, combative midfield displays have drawn the inevitable comparisons to Claude Makelele, who was a vital cog in Jose Mourinho's side when they won back-to-back Premier League league titles in 2004/05 and 2005/06 respectively.

And Makelele, currently part of former Chelsea coach and assistant Paul Clement's backroom staff at Swansea City, spoke glowingly of Kante.

The 44-year old feels that the 'Makelele role' is no longer a thing and says we should be calling it the 'Kante position' thanks to the consistent performances of the former Caen midfielder.

"People talk about the Makelele position, but I am old and it is time everybody called it the Kante position. N'Golo deserves that," he told the official Chelsea club website.

"Every time I watch N'Golo, I see so much desire in him, so much focus and so much determination to make himself a better player with every game.

Chelsea had their early wobbles at the start of the season, but the shift to a 3-4-3 system, buoyed by Kante's brilliance after signing from Leicester for a fee of £32 million, propelled Chelsea to the Premier League title - while they also have the chance to end the season with two trophies if the the Blues overcome Arsenal in Saturday's FA Cup final at Wembley.

In the peak of his powers, Makelele adopted an unselfish, underappreciated, role in the Chelsea side, and says Kante is doing exactly the same.

"He was the heartbeat of the Leicester team, but it was also like taking a bulldog for a walk, you had to keep pulling him back because he had so much energy.

"Now N'Golo has added intelligence. He appreciates the position of his team-mates more and how to play in a more sophisticated system where it is not all about running and tackling, but the decision he makes.

"Some players are meant to be superstars, but some - like N'Golo and myself - must be happy making other people look good."

As far as compliments go, one would think it can't get much better for Kante.

But, of course, there are the incredible 'Kante facts' that have been doing the rounds this season...
