Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has announced his decision to retire from football.

Danish international Agger has taken to his official Twitter account to let the world know of his decision. Despite only being 31 years of age, the former Denmark captain has been blighted by injuries in recent years and had returned to his first club, Brondby for the last couple of seasons, where he was named vice-captain upon his return.

Agger made 232 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 14 goals and lifting the League Cup. He was part of the Brondby team that lifted the domestic double in Denmark in the 2004/05 season and won 71 caps for his country, scoring 12 goals while also being named Danish Footballer Of The Year in 2007 and 2012.

We wish him all the best in his retirement.
