Jan Oblak proved why he's one of the very best goalkeepers in world football with a sensational save 90 minutes into Atletico Madrid's 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao yesterday.

The visitors started brightly at the Wanda Metropolitano and defender Inigo Martinez thought he had put his side 1-0 up early on when he rose highest in the box and headed goalwards.

The ball looked like it was looping into the top corner but Oblak produced the most incredible reaction save to tip the goal-bound effort over the bar.

It's an utterly phenomenal save but one that fans have come to expect from the Slovenian, who has won the Zamora Trophy (most La Liga clean sheets) for four consecutive seasons.

We're only ten games into the current campaign but Oblak is already well on course to make it five having only conceded five goals in the league this term.

Incredibly, the former Benfica shotstopper has saved 18 out of the last 19 shots he has faced in all competitions for Atleti - with only Valencia skipper Dani Parejo beating him with an 82nd minute free-kick in last week's 1-1 draw.

His stunning stop proved crucial in the Spanish capital yesterday as Diego Simeone's side went on to claim a 2-0 win to take them to joint-top of La Liga thanks to goals from Saul Niguez and Alvaro Morata.

The 26-year old has been named on the shortlist for France Football's Yashin Trophy, to be given to the best goalkeeper in 2019, but the fact Hugo Lloris made the Ballon d'Or shortlist and he didn't is pretty baffling.
