Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has had his say on the Sam Allardyce saga which saw the England boss filmed by undercover journalists talking about how to get around third-party ownership.

The Frenchman, as expected, didn't go too in-depth when discussing the matter but did say that he "hopes he will clear his name".

Allardyce was caught on camera by undercover reporters disguised as businessmen interested in getting involved with football transfers. The 61-year talked to the reports about how to get around third-party ownership regulations, as well as saying ex England manager Roy Hodgson "hasn't got the personality for public speaking".

Wenger says Allardyce shouldn't be treated as guilty just yet.

As quoted by The Mirror, he said:

"I can't tell you anything about that. I haven't even read the story. I would not like to come out on that. It's too damageable and too heavy, you have to let Sam Allardyce defend himself and I hope he will clear his name.

"Nothing is proven. At the moment it is only suggestions. We live in a society that is very quick to accuse people.

"Sam Allardyce as well, until they have done something wrong [they shouldn't be treated as guilty]."

Wenger is the first of what will likely be a number of managers who will be asked to comment on the controversy surrounding Sam Allardyce.
