Micah Richards Says Jamie Carragher Is 'Everton When He Wants To Be' And 'Liverpool When He Wants To Be'

"You've played for your boyhood club..."

Micah Richards had some fun at Jamie Carragher's expense on Sunday with a cheeky dig about his "boyhood club" ahead of this afternoon's Premier League clash between Newcastle and Aston Villa.

The pair have often been able to have a laugh at each other whilst on punditry duty and today was no different.

As you can see in the footage below, former England international Richards brings up Carragher's affiliation with Everton and well, it produced a hilarious moment inside the Sky Sports studio. Brilliant.

Carragher, who grew up supporting Everton, made a total of 737 appearances for local rivals Liverpool.

He admitted in his 2009 autobiography that he used to "love" the Toffees but there are things about the club "I can’t stand now."

The former Liverpool centre-back continued: “At first I still liked Everton and wanted them to be performing well, but increasingly I became less tolerant.

“The transformation from loving them to openly wanting them to lose took years to complete. But when I saw some of my best friends suffering as a result of revolting abuse, naturally, my love for Everton receded. Anfield called me.

"It was my professional commitment and personal friendships that finally took my heart from Goodison and positioned it slap bang in the centre of The Kop.”

Back in December, Carragher pulled no punches when discussing Everton's current situation.

The 44-year-old said the club is a "joke right now" before criticising the club's majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri.

"If I go back to the David Moyes era, Everton had something about them. Yes, they didn't win a trophy, it's easy to laugh at them. But there was a spirit about them and a fight. They stood for something," he said.

"It's not long after that Moshiri came in. All of a sudden, because they couldn't break that ceiling, you look how many managers he's had and how much has been spent, he's had eight including interim ones, and he's now onto his third director of football.

"The money spent is mind-boggling, and they're actually getting worse. In that time under Moshiri, they've signed 58 players."

Despite a poor run of form of late, Frank Lampard's side managed to pick up all three points against Leeds on Saturday thanks to goals from Seamus Coleman, Michael Keane and Anthony Gordon.

Everton fans will be hoping that this is the start of a more successful period under new management.
