Why Mason Mount was NOT in the squad to face Leicester City despite being 'fully fit'

Why Mason Mount was NOT in the squad to face Leicester City despite being 'fully fit'

Mason Mount was not part of Chelsea's squad that beat Leicester City.

Chelsea star Mason Mount was NOT in the squad to face Leicester City despite being 'fully fit'.

The Blues registered back-to-back wins in the Premier League after beating Leicester 3-1 at the King Power Stadium last Saturday, having picked up three points against Leeds United at the start of the month.

Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic all got on the score-sheet to make it three wins in a row in all competitions.

Wesley Fofana hilariously hit out at taunts against him during the match on social media while Mount's exclusion was one of the other main talking points from the league game.

His absence was thought to be down to an injury, but it has now been revealed to have been a decision taken by the club and Graham Potter.

According to reports, the 24-year-old is 'fully fit' and could have played a part against the Foxes if he was included in the matchday squad.

But he is being left out of the Chelsea side at the moment due to his contract dispute going on at Stamford Bridge, per Fabrizio Romano.

The England international has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, having yet to agree a new Chelsea contract.

The academy product and the board remain in a stand-off over contract demands.

Mount's current deal is due to expire in the summer of 2024, with Manchester United, Newcastle United and Liverpool believed to be keeping tabs on him ahead of making an approach.

Speaking ahead of his side's game against Leicester, Potter described the contract talks between Mount and the club as 'complicated'.

He said: "I've spoken to him several times about his situation, football, and life generally.

"My feelings for Mason are clear. He's a fantastic person firstly, but sometimes these things happen.

"They're complicated, and it's best I speak little about it, let them get on with it in deciding what is right for both parties."

Asked if Mount is part of his plans for next season, Potter replied: "Yes."

He added: "But I'm not naive, and I know it's an important time for him and an important contract.

"These things have to be right for him, and his family, and it's important he makes a decision on that basis."
