"He Won't Go There" - Manchester United Told Their Dream Signing Would Turn Them Down

"He Won't Go There" - Manchester United Told Their Dream Signing Would Turn Them Down

"If he was available, I think Chelsea or Liverpool would be in front of them anyway."

Manchester United have been told long-time target Declan Rice would turn them down - despite him being the 'perfect fit'.

Rice has been one of the Premier League's top midfielders at West Ham United and a number of clubs are interested.

United have had an interest in the 22-year-old for a number of years but former Hammers defender Glen Johnson believes he wouldn't be interested.

"I don’t think Manchester United could get anyone better than Declan Rice," Johnson told BettingOdds.com.

"If he was available, I think Chelsea or Liverpool would be in front of them anyway.

"Those players only come around once. United have got [Donny] van de Beek or whoever and they try to sign all these players in that position for loads of money and it’s just never worked.

"If I was Declan I would be a bit concerned to be honest with you. I’d be thinking Manchester United aren’t the Manchester United of old."

Hammers boss David Moyes insists Rice isn't for sale and a fee of £100 million wouldn't be enough.

Rice has played 23 games this season in the Premier League and Europa League, scoring three times and assisting four.

United are currently seventh in the Premier League and in a fierce battle for the top four.

They regularly start Fred and Scott McTominay in midfield, with the duo linking up for the only goal in Monday's FA Cup win over Aston Villa.

Johnson thinks United aren't the proposition they were a few years ago after five years without a trophy.

He continued: "There used to be a time when, anytime Manchester United came calling, you go. It was the number one place. Everyone wanted to go. But they don’t have that appeal anymore.

"I don’t think he’d end up there whether they want him or not. But in terms of their business, I think they should just sit tight and wait until the summer and weigh the whole situation up with everybody."

United have been linked with a number of midfielders since interim manager Ralf Rangnick's arrival but it's unlikely they make a move in January.

Paul Pogba is expected to move on when his contract expires in the summer and he's currently out with an injury.
