Manchester United Staff Have Already Given Erik Ten Hag A New Nickname

Erik ten Hag hasn't been at United for long but he's already been given a nickname following his arrival in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag has reportedly already impressed staff at Manchester United, despite only taking over the reigns two weeks ago, and he's already been given a new nickname.

Ten Hag finished his time at Ajax early, in order to start his new job at Old Trafford as soon as the season was over for the Premier League club.

It perhaps hinted at just how much work he knows he's got to do this summer, after United finished the campaign with less points than they ever had in the Premier League era.

He's already begun that work, getting detailed reports on all his players and eyeing up his transfer wishlist, which even includes Chelsea star Mason Mount.

According to Goal, he has already impressed those around the club, with the little things he's done, and earned himself a new nickname.

The report claims that the Dutchman has 'sent a surge of electricity' around the club and that staff are calling him the "New Sheriff."

There's no word whether or not there's ever been a previous sheriff at the club in order to name Ten Hag 'new,' but it's pretty certain that wasn't his predecessor Ralf Rangnick.

The German came into the club back in December, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and things didn't go according to plan.

United failed to finish in the top four and Rangnick then didn't take up his role as a consultant to the club, instead becoming Austria national team manager.

The report about his time at Old Trafford certainly wasn't good reading for fans and it revealed that he also earned a nickname, though it was far less flattering, with some calling him 'Specs' behind his back.

Ten Hag's moniker has been earned by making the point to meet as many of the backroom staff as possible at the club's Carrington training ground.

The report says they were left surprised how personable he was, as he stopped to introduce himself and shake hands as he was given a tour by John Murtough.

He also met some fans outside of the ground and shook hands with each member of the media who turned up to his introductory press conference.

Ten Hag is yet to meet his players, who have gone off on holiday or international duty, but he will get plenty of time with them when they return to prepare for the upcoming campaign.

One issue Ten Hag might settle pretty quickly is the captaincy, with reports that the 52-year-old is going to let the dressing room decide who they want leading the team.

That is set to be David de Gea, with the goalkeeper favoured to current armband wearer Harry Maguire, or the club's player of the season Cristiano Ronaldo.
