Man Utd boss Ten Hag expects triple injury boost for Carabao Cup final against Newcastle

Man Utd boss Ten Hag expects triple injury boost for Carabao Cup final against Newcastle

Man Utd's injury issues could ease soon.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag says he hopes three players will return to the squad for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle later this month.

United currently have a lengthy injury list, with Donny van de Beek and Christian Eriksen confirmed as long-term absentees.

Anthony Martial, Antony and Scott McTominay missed the side's 2-0 win over Leeds on Sunday, whilst Casemiro is suspended for another two Premier League games after being shown a red card against Crystal Palace.

But there have been encouraging signs in recent weeks, with Diogo Dalot and Jadon Sancho returning to the fold after absences from the first team.

United still have concerns, though, highlighted by the loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich on deadline day. Ten Hag also brought in Jack Butland on loan from Palace as goalkeeping cover, whilst Burnley striker Wout Weghorst is also at Old Trafford on a temporary basis.

Looking ahead to the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on February 26, Ten Hag is confident that more players will soon be in contention to make the United squad.

Ten Hag gives Man Utd injury update

United face Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday, with no returnees to the squad from the 18 that travelled to Elland Road last weekend.

They face Leicester on Sunday, and then the second leg of their Barcelona tie, but Ten Hag anticipates that three of his injured players will be back in time to take on Newcastle.

He is hopeful that the trio of Martial, McTominay and Antony will all be in contention against the Magpies.

He said: "It looks good. They are on the way back. They are on the training ground individually. They are making progress."

Antony has been out of action for two games with a leg injury, with Martial has missed eight of the last 10 games for Ten Hag's side.

McTominay, meanwhile, has missed the last five games, although the extent of his injury is unclear.
