Man Utd could miss out on another player after Gakpo setback as Chelsea enter race to sign January target

Manchester United may be set to miss out on another player in January, as Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Joao Felix.

Manchester United may be set to miss out on another player following Cody Gakpo's agreement with Liverpool, as Chelsea have entered the race for another of their January transfer targets.

PSV announced that Gakpo will join Liverpool in January, subject to passing a medical in England. Although neither club has published the fee, it is believed to be in the region of £37 million.

United have been tracking the 23-year-old for a number of months, with manager Erik ten Hag a fan of the player. But CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has claimed that, despite the interest, the club didn't place a formal bid for Gakpo.

They now must move on to other forward targets, with links to Barcelona's Memphis Depay having grown since the Gakpo to Liverpool news was announced.

They are also believed to be interested in signing Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix - but Ten Hag's side may have been dealt a key blow on that front.

Chelsea keen on signing Joao Felix

The Telegraph claim that Chelsea have now entered the race to sign Felix, with a loan deal and an obligation to buy in the summer one of their potential options to seal a deal.

The Blues are on the search for a new attacker following Armando Broja's serious knee injury that will rule him out for the remainder of the season.

And Felix could provide the perfect short-term solution, with the Daily Record claiming that Atletico's demands include an £8 million loan fee and the player's wages paid in full.

Chelsea spent over £250 million during the summer transfer window, although the Daily Mail reported that the club were not concerned over potential breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

They are close to finalising the signing of Molde forward David Datro Fofana in January, although Scandinavian football expert Steve Wyss told The Athletic he believes the 20-year-old will go back out on loan once he arrives at Stamford Bridge.

Therefore, Blues fans can expect more than one addition in January, and the club could beat United to Felix's signature.
