Man United have decided on the priority position to fill during the upcoming January transfer window, according to reports.
Erik ten Hag's side have had a mixed season in the Premier League, with encouraging signs coupled with some damaging defeats.
For instance, the Red Devils lost 6-3 at Man City, and 4-0 at Brentford, but their 2-0 win over Tottenham last week saw them fire 28 shots at the Spurs goal. It was rated as the side's best attacking performance of the season by many fans.
But the Red Devils will want to cut out the inconsistency in the upcoming months. They currently sit sixth in the Premier League, but are only one point off the top four and are unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions.

One of United's key problems has been conceding goals, with their 16 in the league more than every other team in the top 10 bar seventh-placed Fulham (22).
Despite this, Lisandro Martinez has put in encouraging displays at centre-back since signing from Ajax this summer. In addition, he had begun to form a solid partnership with Raphael Varane, until the Frenchman picked up an injury in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Chelsea. He could miss the World Cup.
But Erik ten Hag still wants to shore up his defence further - and is targeting a specific signing in January.
Erik ten Hag, Man United want another defender
According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, United want to look to improve three separate positions in the upcoming transfer window.

One of those is at centre forward. There remains doubt over the future of Cristiano Ronaldo, even though the 37-year-old legend held 'clear-the-air' talks with Ten Hag on Tuesday.
In addition, the same source claims that United may also search for a new goalkeeper - but this is dependent on David de Gea.
However, Plettenberg says their main priority is in defence, with the Red Devils desperate to bring in a right-back.

Plettenberg broke the news on Sunday that United had sent scouts to watch Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong.
The former Celtic man, who came through the Man City youth system, is one name of interest to Ten Hag's side, who are keen on adding a 'high-quality right-back' to their squad in January.
