Fans think Erling Haaland is treating Premier League games like charity matches

Erling Haaland has been banging in the goals since joining Manchester City

Erling Haaland’s antics against Newcastle United have led to fans thinking he is treating Premier League games like charity matches.

On Saturday afternoon, Manchester City were in action in the Premier League against Newcastle, with the hope of cutting the gap between themselves and Arsenal to just three points.

City were on top from start to finish and it took just 15 minutes for Pep Guardiola’s side to get ahead. Phil Foden produced a stunning solo goal to make it 1-0.

In the second half, Bernardo Silva’s goal in the 67th minute sealed a 2-0 victory.

However, fans have spotted Haaland’s antics during the closing stages, leading to the belief that he is treating the Premier League like charity matches.

One fan posted a video of the Norwegian striker wasting time near the corner flag and whipping up the crowd afterwards.

The caption read: “Haaland he’s treating it like a charity match skdkdmmd.”

Other fans reacted to the video.

Someone said: “Already one of my favourite players.”

Another commented: “Proper troll, he even got Lascelles rattled too.”

After racing to 27 Premier League goals in the first half of the season, Haaland’s performances have been put under the microscope in recent weeks due to his lack of output.

However, it is still clear as day that when he gets a chance, he will more than likely tuck it away.

After the vital win against the Magpies, goalscorer Silva said to BT Sport: “I am very happy because it was a tough game. It was a tough moment in the game for us.

“They take more risks and they went for it so to score that [second] goal was very good. You know when you play Newcastle how good they are this season. They went for it because they need points. We knew they would press more and create more chances so the second goal was important for us.”

Arsenal now have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table back to five points should they beat Bournemouth.
