Man City academy player Carlos Borges hits the Ronaldo celebration after hat-trick against Man Utd

Borges scored four goals against Man Utd U21's as they romped to a 6-1 win.

Carlos Borges pulled off the coldest moment of the weekend when he performed Cristiano Ronaldo's new celebration after scoring a hat-trick against Manchester United U21's.

The 18-year-old forward, who has scored 16 goals in 17 games for Manchester City's youth team this season, netted four times against local rivals United on Saturday as they returned to the top of the Premier League 2 ladder.

After City went behind early on, they bounced back in style. Dire Mebude and Will Dickson also found the scoresheet as they recorded an emphatic 6-1 win against Mark Dempsey's side.

But it was Borges that stole the headlines with a memorable performance, and celebration, at Leigh Sports Village.

The Portuguese teenager, who has been tipped by fans to make Pep Guardiola's first-team squad this season, paid tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo by performing his new celebration.

So what does it actually mean? Well, his celebration is apparently a nod to the position in which he sleeps when travelling with the squad – which hasn’t gone unnoticed by his team-mates.

According to United's official website, it's a 'self-deprecating in-joke' with the squad that highlights their "strong bond".

As we all know, Ronaldo takes his sleep very seriously. In fact, Portugal's all-time top goalscorer takes up to five naps a day that last 90 minutes each, according to a sleep expert.

Nick Littlehales worked with the striker during his time at Real Madrid and broke down how he gets his forty winks in an interview with The Independent.

Ronaldo, who sleeps in the foetal position, is obsessed with marginal gains when it comes to personal performance.

Littlehales explained: "Anyone who has ever worked with Ronaldo knows that if you have a discussion in the corner of the room, he will come over and ask what you are talking about.

"I was invited to Real Madrid when Carlo Ancelotti became manager [in 2013]. I was standing on the edge of the training pitch, talking to the Madrid staff, when Ronaldo ran over.

"He had been training all day and you would have expected him to run straight to the dressing room for a shower but he asked what we were discussing.

"He was interested in what I was trying to do because as an athlete he has always invested in himself.

"From what I have learned from working with him, Ronaldo is not interested in fad diets, he is not interested in copying others. The only thing he is concerned with is: does it work for him?"

Thoughts on the celebration?
