Man City fans boo Premier League anthem after charge for financial rules, it was loud

Man City fans boo Premier League anthem after charge for financial rules, it was loud

Supporters inside the Etihad made their feelings known.

Manchester City fans loudly booed the Premier League anthem prior to kick-off against Aston Villa following the charge for financial rules.

After Man City had been charged for allegedly breaching financial rules, fans discussed the idea of booing the league anthem.

And the Etihad faithful made their feelings known ahead of kick-off on Sunday as they jeered the anthem whilst both teams lined up.

A video has surfaced online showing supporters booing the anthem before defiantly chanting 'CITEH, CITEH, CITEH!'

The booing of the anthem got people talking on social media.

One tweeted: "Those boos were the loudest I’ve heard the Man City fans at Etihad for a while."

A second joked: "Is there an Anthem that Man City doesn’t boo?"

A third questioned: "How can Man City fans boo the Premier League anthem as if it's an injustice what they’re going through."

A rival fan said: "Kick them out the league if they don’t wanna be in it, they're not a big enough club to be missed."

Another commented: "Disgraceful they should be ashamed."

It's not the only anthem Man City boo as they also taunt the Champions League song after UEFA handed them a two-year ban back in 2020.

Of course, that ban was overturned, with the Premier League anthem now getting the same treatment.

Speaking ahead of the league fixture against Villa, Pep Guardiola pulled no punches in his assessment of the charge.

"My first thought is we're already being condemned. It's the same with UEFA, we were already condemned. The club proved we were completely innocent. You know on what side I am," he said.

"We are lucky we live in a country where everyone is innocent until proven guilty. It seems like we have already been sentenced.

"What is going to happen, I don't know. We think we have good lawyers and I we are going to defend our position. Time will depend what happens. We will see what a judge, the Premier League decides. In the same way with UEFA, we are innocent."

The Spaniard added: "UEFA's sentence wasn't even that. It is now down to the lawyers of both sides to defend one side and the other one. It will be longer than one month, two months and three months.

"We know what happened with UEFA and we will see that."
