Shocking chart gives 21 reasons why Liverpool must rectify transfer mistakes in January

A new chart has presented more reasons for Liverpool to invest in the January transfer window.

A new chart has presented more reasons for Liverpool to invest heavily in the January transfer window.

The Reds have struggled to find the form that has turned them into an elite Premier League side over recent years, with Jurgen Klopp's side currently in sixth place. They are 16 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

They have suffered with injury problems, with Thiago, Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Ibrahima Konate amongst those to miss noteworthy amounts of game time.

But a lack of investment in midfield, Reds legend Jamie Carragher says, has 'come back to haunt them', with Thiago the only central midfielder signed permanently in the last four-and-a-half years.

As a result, fans are desperate for Liverpool to solve their issues in the January market, particularly off the back of Monday's disappointing 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

Whether the club can do so remains to be seen, but a new chart has highlighted another reason as to why they need to sign players.

New graphic highlights major Liverpool problem

Football writer Andrew Beasley has shared a shocking graphic for Reds supporters, showing that a total of 21 senior players have missed at least one game for Klopp's side this season.

Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Luis Diaz headline the club's current injury woes, a list which also includes Arthur Melo, James Milner, Roberto Firmino and Jordan Henderson.

Naby Keita, meanwhile, has missed almost the full season, but has recently returned from injury to play a part in Liverpool's post-World Cup fixtures.

Injury crises aren't exactly new to the Reds, with Klopp's side playing the second half of the 2020/21 season without any of centre-back trio Van Dijk, Joel Matip and Joe Gomez. In that campaign, however, they did rally to finish third following a superb final quarter of the season, which saw them win seven and draw two of their final nine games.

But the chart underlines the struggles that Liverpool have faced in this season in particular. With Van Dijk set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, those problems aren't yet easing - and the Reds could surely do with making more additions to the squad in January as a result.
