Leon Bailey lucky to avoid red card after kicking out at Lisandro Martinez

Fans think Leon Bailey should have been sent off.

Leon Bailey was lucky to avoid a red card after kicking out at Lisandro Martinez during Manchester United vs. Aston Villa.

The Villa winger clashed with the Argentinean defender late on in his side's 4-2 EFL Cup defeat to Man United on Thursday.

Bailey and Martinez both entered the fray as second-half substitutes and they renewed their rivalry following their tussle during the Premier League meeting last weekend.

Bailey accused Martinez of elbowing him in the ribs twice during Villa's 3-1 win over Man United.

And it appears the Jamaican had revenge on his mind when he came to blows with Martinez on Thursday.

They scuffled to the ground, with Bailey kicking out at Martinez. The match referee brandished just a yellow card, with fans online thinking he should have been sent off.

One tweeted: "That’s a straight red card, Leon Bailey cried about VAR then does this to Martinez."

A second wrote: "Leon Bailey complaining about the refs on twitter after Sunday, he literally kicked out and slapped Martinez 3/4 times should've got sent off."

A third added: "The worst thing is, not only this a stone wall red card but the official David Coote was looking right at Leon Bailey when he studded Lisandro Martinez."

Another commented: "Leon Bailey could have seriously done Martinez's knee right before the World Cup too."

It comes after Bailey claimed he 'couldn't breathe' after Martinez's elbow last weekend.

He slammed the referees as he tweeted: "Very disappointed in the referees today, I couldn’t breath [sic] for a second after getting elbowed twice in my rib.

"The linesman went on to say I shouldn’t be saying anything because I was doing just the same thing to Martinez. Sometimes I don’t understand why we got VAR. SMH."
