The Awkward Moment A Peterborough Player Mistakenly Passes To A Steward

The Awkward Moment A Peterborough Player Mistakenly Passes To A Steward

Easy mistake to make, to be fair.

In our long and successful football careers playing on the local playing fields or at the local football court we've all been guilty of passing the ball to the completely wrong person. By that, I'm not meaning passing to your left-back instead of your right winger, by the way.

It was a regular occurrence in school football where you'd pass the ball straight to someone from the other team or even worse, pass the ball to someone who wasn't playing - sadly the dinner lady didn't have her boots on this occasion so she was not able to take part.

The whole "I thought he was on my team" or "I thought he was playing" excuse came out regularly but that didn't stop your teammates being absolutely livid with you.

However, it appears as though the same sort of scenario even occurs in professional football.

Peterborough United sported a bright fluorescent green away kit in their win over Northampton at the weekend and that brought about a bit of difficulty for midfielder Michael Bostwick. The strip has the identical colours to a typical Steward's outfit and so when a figure wearing bright Hi-Vis colours was moving near the pitch, Bostwick mistakenly thought one of the stewards was a teammate and passed the ball to him.

He must have wondered why his 'teammate' didn't collect the ball. The ball rolled out of play as Bostwick gave the opposition a throw-in.

Watch the hilarious incident here:

The 'Against Modern Football Kits' campaign is firmly underway and backed by a certain Michael Bostwick. We've also heard he's campaigning for stewards to change the colour of their jackets.
