Peter Schmeichel's Tweet About Rafa Benitez From Last Year Goes Viral

Newcastle United not only secured promotion back to the footballing promise land, but they also won the Championship title in dramatic fashion.

It appeared Brighton were set to be crowned champions until Aston Villa's Jack Grealish popped up in the dying stages to grab a late equalizer.

Chris Hughton's side spurned another chance to clinch top spot following their defeat to the mighty Bristol City in the penultimate round of games.

Meanwhile, up North, Newcastle beat Barnsley 3-0 which ensured their return to the Premier League would be as champions.

From relegation to the second tier to the Premier League in just over a year under the management of Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard took over the helm after being sacked by Real Madrid but has endeared himself to the Geordies.

Though his appointment back in March 2016 left Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel underwhelmed.

The Danish stopper poster a Tweet with the following message, "What makes Newcastle think that Rafa Benitez will get them out the predicament they're in? If I were them, I'd go for Nigel Pearson."
