Liverpool fans make their minds up on Federico Chiesa after 45 minutes into first pre-season friendly

Liverpool face Preston North End in their first pre-season friendly.

Liverpool fans have made their mind up on Federico Chiesa following the opening 45 minutes of the club's pre-season against Preston North End.

The Reds ran away with the 24/25 Premier League title, but Arne Slot has not wasted time adding to his squad this summer with the arrival of Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez completing another early summer move.

With the Premier League getting underway next month, Slot's side took to the pitch for the first time this season at Deepdale where the hosting club paid tribute to the tragic loss of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva.

Liverpool fans desperate to keep Federico Chiesa

A lot of Liverpool's key stars such as Mo Salah were in from the start, but it was Federico Chiesa who caught the eye of fans early on.

Chiesa played just six Premier League games last season with just one start, and has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer.

However, after his impressive display against Preston, fans are now desperate to keep hold of the Italian international.

One fan wrote: "Also, we can’t sell Federico Chiesa. Give him one more season, we know there’s a player in there he just needs fitness and match sharpness. This squad needs his wholesome energy this season."

Another added: "I really like Chiesa, always have even before joining us. I really hope he stays and gets a proper chance this season because when he is on it he is as good as anyone IMO."

A third posted: "We are mad if we let Chiesa go what a player he his."

What Federico Chiesa has said about his future

Chiesa himself opened up about his frustrations over lack of game time speaking to Corriere Dello Sport in May, and revealed he will be assessing his options this summer.

“The year is over. But it’s an experience I would do again. Soon I will sit down at the table with the club, Fali (Ramadani) and my family to find the best solution. I wouldn’t mind staying in Liverpool at all," he explained.
