Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi denied 'one last dance' as injury absence confirmed

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi denied 'one last dance' as injury absence confirmed

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr are set to take on Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami on Thursday afternoon.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been denied an on-field reunion ahead of Al Nassr vs Inter Miami.

On Thursday, Saudi Professional League side Al Nassr are set to face off against MLS club Inter Miami.

The friendly is a pre-season fixture for Messi and his team ahead of the 2024 MLS season.

Ahead of the match, all the talk was about the possibility of Ronaldo playing against Messi, for potentially the last time in their career.

However, fans have been left disappointed after it was confirmed that Ronaldo is still recovering from an injury.

According to the Daily Mail, Al Nassr boss Luis Castro said: “Ronaldo is in the final part of his recovery to join the group.

“We hope that in the next few days you can start working with the team. He will be absent from the game.”

Last week, Ronaldo caused a stir after his injury ruled him out of a friendly match in China, which ended up being cancelled.

The Portuguese said: “As you know, I played 22 years in football and I'm the player who doesn't have too many injuries. So, I'm really sad, because Al Nassr and myself, we come here to China to enjoy the tour.

“So, as you can see, I feel sad. I know you are sad, too, especially the people who love Cristiano. But we have to see this in a good way.”

Ronaldo continued: “When I say in a good way, I mean, we [have] not cancelled the game. We're going to postpone the game. We want to be back here to your country. We will be back.”

Earlier in the week, Messi and Inter Miami were beaten in Saudi Arabia 4-3 by Al Hilal.

Aside from Messi, Inter Miami also have the likes of Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in their ranks.
