Chelsea and Man City are set to go head-to-head for one of the best young goalkeepers in world football

Chelsea and Man City are involved in a major transfer battle.

Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly set to go head-to-head to sign Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa this summer.

Reigning Premier League champions City are looking to make more improvements to their squad as they pursue a fifth consecutive league crown.

One area they may not have expected to target would be in the goalkeeper position, with Ederson and Stefan Ortega already within their ranks.

But reports claim that Ederson is attracting interest from the Saudi Pro League, although City have offered him a new contract.

If the Brazilian does decide to leave the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola will turn his attentions towards Costa.

That's according to journalist Rudy Galetti, who claims that the reigning Premier League winners are interested in signing the Portugal international after Euro 2024 ends.

The 24-year-old has become one of the world's top goalkeepers, and will be Portugal's number one goalkeeper in Germany this summer.

His distribution is seen as one of his key strengths, which will likely appeal to City if they do need to replace Ederson or Ortega.

Meanwhile, Galetti claims that Chelsea are also keen on signing Costa, with the club having already approached the Porto star to discuss personal terms.

The Blues are said to be in the market for a new goalkeeper despite having Djordje Petrovic, Robert Sanchez and Kepa Arrizabalaga all under contract for next season.

Costa could become one of the first signings for new boss Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea having agreed a deal to appoint the Italian on a five-year deal pending a compensation payment to his current club Leicester.

The appointment has attracted some controversy among Blues supporters given the manner of Mauricio Pochettino's departure following a strong end to the season, while some concerns have been raised over Maresca's inflexibility at Leicester when it came to his tactical style.
