Mourinho's time at Old Trafford came in great use.

Jose Mourinho told his Tottenham Hotspur team exactly how Paul Pogba would play against them last season - proving he is still one of the world's top tacticians.

Mourinho worked with Pogba for two seasons at Manchester United and while they didn't see eye to eye, the Frenchman's talent was clear to see.

Spurs played United back in June and Pogba's introduction from the bench helped his side salvage a 1-1 draw.

But the 'Special One' knew Pogba was ready to enter the fray and when he did, it would cause trouble for Spurs' backline.

"I think, for sure, sooner or later Pogba is coming. And every time Pogba has the ball, he will have the vision, he will have the quality of pass," Mourinho said in the dressing room.

"So I can imagine Pogba from a position like that [deep right of midfield] to get the ball and to make a beautiful pass here for Marcus Rashford to go."

What follows is a clip of the World Cup winner playing that exact ball to Rashford, as Davinson Sanchez overlaps to challenge.

Mourinho went on to tell his side how to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men, stressing how important the counter attack will be.

"They want to press all the time. You need to measure the risk, don't make mistakes, don't attract the pressure.

"One thing is to play short - one pass, another pass and then we go - another thing is pass here, pass here, pass there because you are attracting the pressure.

"There is a lot of space to counter-attack and to kill them."

Spurs' goal did come from a counter attack, with Steven Bergwijn's low effort catching David de Gea out in the first half.

Bruno Fernandes equalised through a second half penalty, which was won by Pogba.

It is surprising to hear Mourinho speak so fondly of Pogba after how toxic their relationship became.

Following a 2-2 draw with Southampton back in December 2018, Mourinho allegedly labelled the 27-year-old a 'virus' in the Red Devils dressing room.

"You don't play," Mourinho fumed according to The Telegraph. "You don't respect players and supporters. And you kill the mentality of the good honest people around you.

"You are like a person with a flu, with a virus in a closed room - you pass that virus to the others."
