Immediately after he woke up from his brain operation, Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly joked that he will fly out to Ukraine, Kiev to watch Liverpool's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

The former Manchester United boss is awake and speaking with friends and family, after he was taken ill over the weekend, with what's been reported to be a brain haemorrhage.

Since his hospitalisation, past stories have come to surface about the football legend, such as, during his time managing Aberdeen, he fined his whole squad and then informed them by writing a poem. Tales like this have shown the true brilliance of the man.

Now, via The Metro, it's reported that, when the 76-year-old first woke up, he asked about the result between Doncaster Rovers and Wigan Athletic. Rovers are managed by Ferguson's son, Darren Ferguson. The result was a 1-0 defeat to the home side at the Keepmoat Stadium, but Darren was absent from the game because of this family emergency.

Then he said that he will fly out to Kiev to watch heated rivals Liverpool's Champions League final against Real Madrid.

"How did Doncaster get on?' he asked, before reportedly joking: 'Aye, the Cup Final is out - but what about Kiev?"

A source close to the Scotsman said: "Of course he'd love to be at Kiev on May 26 to see his former star player Cristiano Ronaldo in action for Real Madrid against Liverpool.

"Ronaldo sees Sir Alex as a father figure. "But Sir Alex needs plenty of rest and will have to follow his consultant's strict instructions to recover fully."

The news of his illness shook the football world, with many tributes pouring in for the man who won 49 trophies with Man United, a record which has never been seen in Britain before. The surprise was that the former Aberdeen boss looked so healthy when he presented Arsene Wenger with a special farewell gift at Old Trafford on 29th April, before the Gunners' 2-1 loss to the Red Devils.

The hope is that the manager makes a full recovery soon.

We wish Sir Alex all the best in having a speedy recovery.
