Alexis Sanchez returned to Manchester United's starting XI against Valencia in the Champions League last night but it wasn't a good return to the side and one stat proved how bad he was.
Last Saturday Jose Mourinho made one big shock call in his starting line up against West Ham in the Premier League. The Manchester United boss dropped Alexis Sanchez from his 18 man squad despite there being no injury and the Chilean even travelling to London.
The former Arsenal winger has been poor for United this season, and he wasn't great last season either, but it was still a surprise that he was completely dropped, being replaced by Anthony Martial.
Mourinho's decision didn't work out as the Red Devils were on the end of an embarrassing 3-1 loss to the Hammers, making Jose reverse the selection for the Champions League game with Valencia on Tuesday night.

Rather than be inspired into action Sanchez was once again disappointing as United's ponderous form continued in a boring and drab 0-0 with their Spanish opponents.
The 29 year old was subbed off in the second half and it's no surprise considering the stat, via Opta, that showed just how bad he was:
It's not like Sanchez giving the ball away is a new phenomena. The former Udinese player gives the ball away plenty because of his style, he often runs at players with the ball so it's pretty inevitable.

Right now though he's giving the ball away more than before and he's not mixing it with assists and goals as he did when at Arsenal before his move to Old Trafford.
When Sanchez joined United, in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan, it was seen as quite the coup as they beat Manchester City to his signing.
Life hasn't gone well at all for him and last week there were reports that he's another player that's fallen out with Jose Mourinho as things get worse and worse for United.

Can Sanchez turn things around at Old Trafford or is he destined to be a transfer flop?
