Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Forced To Delete Tweet After Fans Backlash

Aubameyang scored just his third goal of the Premier League season but his tweet after the game took some of the gloss of his moment.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had to delete his post match tweet, following Arsenal's draw with Southampton, after fans reacted badly to his social media activity.

It's not been a good season so far for Mikel Arteta's side, after finishing last season winning the FA Cup and starting this one winning the Community Shield, they currently sit 15th in the league table.

A big part of that slump is due to the form of Aubameyang, the forward scored four goals in the semi-final and final of that cup winning success and scored the Gunners' goal in the Community Shield against Liverpool, but before Wednesday had only scored twice in the league in this campaign.

He added to his tally against the Saints, scoring in the 52nd minute to cancel out Theo Walcott's first half opener, and earned Arsenal a point.

Following the match the former Borussia Dortmund forward quote tweeted a post from Gary Lineker about the 31-year-old's lack of scoring but it didn't go down well and the backlash from Auba's post forced him to delete it.

After deleting the original tweet, which just focused on his own achievement of scoring rather than the team's draw, Aubameyang did then take back to social media to focus on the team's poor form.

Speaking to Amazon straight after the game the Gabonese striker said he didn't want to focus on his goal, saying, "I think tonight is not about my goal and me, it's about the team. We need points and it doesn't matter if I score, the most important thing is to win games and get points.

"I think at the moment when things go wrong I just stay in my path and I work a lot. I try to give my advice inside. I was not talking a lot these few weeks but I am here and I want to talk on the pitch."

The draw with Ralph Hassenhutl's side means Arteta's side have failed to win in their previous six games and are already 10 points off the top four spots after just 13 games.
