When Cristiano Ronaldo Stopped A Certain Real Madrid Goal

When Cristiano Ronaldo Stopped A Certain Real Madrid Goal

Ronaldo's desire to score as many goals as possible is exactly why he's been so successful, but sometimes it backfires.

Cristiano Ronaldo's determination to score goals is usually exactly the reason he is so good, but on one occasion for Real Madrid it cost his team and Gonzalo Higuain.

There is simply no doubting how good Ronaldo is at goal scoring, the 36-year-old has scored an incredible 668 goals for his club teams and, on 103 international goals, he isn't far off being the best scorer in international football.

Ronaldo really found his scoring feet during his time at Real, where he became the club's all time top scorer with 450 goals, scored in just 438 appearances. For reference Raul is in second place, with the Spain legend scoring his 323 goals in 741 appearances.

However back in 2012, the five time Ballon d'Or winner's near insatiable desire for goals actually cost Real a goal but more annoyingly, cost his teammate a hat-trick.

Higuain rounded the Osasuna goalkeeper, and looked ready to pull the trigger into an empty net, when his teammate appeared from nowhere, got in his way and the ball went out for a goal kick.

The game finished 5-1, so there really was no harm to Los Blancos, with Karim Benzema opening the scoring, to show how ridiculous the side's attacking options were back then,

Ronaldo and Higuain both got on the scoresheet before half time before the hosts pulled one back just after the break.

The former Manchester United forward scored again to make it 4-1, before he assisted Higuain to round off the scoring.

Having helped his teammate with one goal, he managed to deny the Argentina forward the chance at the match ball with his ridiculous moment of play.

It just goes to show how ridiculous a goal scoring machine Jose Mourinho's Real were that season, with the team ending on 121 goals, with the game against Osasuna one of eight where they scored five or more in a game.

Of course you'd think Ronaldo would have known what it was like when a greedy teammate tried to steal a goal only to see it backfire.

Back in 2010, the former Sporting winger might have added to his international tally in a game against Spain, only to see former United teammate Nani head the ball over the line from an offside position, needless to say Ronaldo was fuming!
