An Everton fan has shared the heartwarming story of Morgan Schneiderlin offering them match day tickets after the fan's mother passed away.

To many people football is a very important part of their family life and one Everton fan took to Reddit to explain how a family joke resulted in the touching offer from Schneiderlin.

Writing on the social media platform user griffithd explained in a post named 'Here's to you Morgan Schneiderlin,' saying, "This week was my mum's funeral. She passed a few weeks ago after a long battle with cancer. We will remember her for a whole host of things, every Christmas, every time Carole King plays, and all these other key events.

"One habit she had though for the past few years was to say every single night "See you in the Morgan Schneiderlin" before heading off to bed. We always smiled as it was her way of engaging with our love (suffering) of Everton Football Club.

"Last night while I was reflecting on this I thought to message Morgan directly on Instagram. I didn't really expect anything more than perhaps a nice message saying sorry for your loss or something. To be honest even that felt like a stretch. Instead he replied very quickly saying how the story had touched him and inviting our family to the game on Saturday. It was such a generous act and in the few messages back and forth I felt a genuine warmth and genuineness from him.

"So this Saturday we will be heading back to Goodison thanks to Morgan, his name will forever be cemented in our memories and family tradition."

Everton also tweeted the story and sent their thoughts to Aled, Sian and their family, what an incredible gesture.

Everton ran out 2-0 winners against West Ham United on Saturday with both Bernard and Gylfi Sigurdsson finding the back of the net at Goodison Park.
