Chelsea Recall Forgotten Player From Loan Spell, Player Admits To Being 'Surprised' By Decision

Thomas Tuchel confirmed the recall.

Chelsea have recalled a forgotten player amid the club's defensive crisis ahead of the second half of the season.

But it's NOT Emerson Palmieri who's currently on loan at Lyon, despite the club's best efforts to get him back.

The Blues put in a request to recall the Italian international but to no avail.

The French team rejected their request, with no formal recall clause in the agreement.

It comes after Thomas Tuchel is without Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

Though the German boss has confirmed that Kenedy is back in the Chelsea fold.

The left-sided Brazilian player has returned to his parent club from his loan spell at Flamengo.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Tuchel revealed: "Kenedy is back and I’m very happy about it so this is huge.

"A huge opportunity for him to make his mark at this club and in this team. We will try now from today on to push and support him as good as we can."

The 25-year-old hasn't played a game for Chelsea since the 2017/18 season.

He's enjoyed loan spells away from Stamford Bridge, playing for Watford, Newcastle United, Getafe, Granada and, of course, Flamengo.

Kenedy, who has played 10 games in all competitions for the Brazilian side this term, admits to being 'surprised' by the decision to bring him back to England.

He told Brazilian media: "I was taken by surprise. I found out yesterday night around 11 pm. Everything was very fast.

"Chelsea had a contract with Flamengo. They asked me to present myself and I’m presenting myself.

"It was Flamengo that told me. I’m just fulfilling the contract."

After booking their spot in the EFL Cup final, Chelsea resume their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they travel to Manchester City.
