Football Fans Instantly Start Churning Out Hilarious Memes Following Andrew Redmayne's Shootout Heroics

Some of the stuff that flooded Twitter was pure gold – the majority of it centring around Redmayne's antics in between the sticks.

Australian football fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

The Socceroos have beaten Peru to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with substitute goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne emerging as the hero.

With the game finishing 0-0 after 120 minutes of football, Redmayne was brought on purely for the penalty shootout.

The move initially raised a few eyebrows among viewers, but the substitute shot stopper went on to prove that it was the correct decision from head coach Graham Arnold.

Thanks to a great diving effort, along with some rather distracting dance moves, Redmayne managed to save the fifth and final penalty meaning Australia successfully booked their place at their sixth FIFA World Cup tournament.

Unsurprisingly, Aussie fans waking up at the crack of dawn to watch from home went into complete and utter meltdown, some taking to social media to have their say at full-time.

The majority simply congratulated the side on the momentous achievement, while others took a slightly different approach by producing some hilarious memes to truly capture their feelings and emotions.

During his time at Fox Sports, he worked in the football department covering the Premier League, A-League, Socceroos and Matildas. Born a stone's throw away from West Ham's training ground, Max is obviously a die-hard Liverpool fan.
