Arsenal 'in talks' with former key Tottenham man, would be a significant move

Arsenal are in talks with a former key Tottenham staff member to become their new head of academy recruitment, according to a new report.

The Gunners are renowned for their superb academy facilities and pathway to the first team, with current stars Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe both coming through the system.

Previously, under Arsene Wenger, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Ashley Cole and Jack Wilshere all came through the ranks to play important parts in the first team, whilst World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez is also a Gunners academy graduate.

Going further back, Martin Keown, Ray Parlour, David Rocastle, Paul Merson and David O'Leary are just some of the footballing legends to have been brought through to the first team in north London.

The current setup is well-staffed, with former Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker the overall academy manager. Meanwhile, Wilshere coaches the U18 squad, having retired from playing.

There is also a head of coaching in place, but the club are on the lookout for a head of academy recruitment - and may have sourced their candidate.

Arsenal in 'talks' with former Spurs staff member

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are in talks with former Spurs staff member Chris Perkins to take the role.

Perkins was previously head of emerging talent, a key academy role, at Tottenham, but is said to have recently left the club. He has also held similar roles at Everton and Derby.

It is claimed that he has now left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having been identified by director of football Fabio Paratici as the key man to help bring through players between the ages of 17 and 21.

And in a further blow to Antonio Conte's side, he could make the short trip across north London. It is said that he is 'ready' to take up a new role at Arsenal, and could begin next month.

The appointment will surely be a significant one for the Gunners as they look to continue their reputation for recruiting and developing talent that can go on to shine on the world stage.
