Arsenal legend Ray Parlour slammed Graham Potter for the Chelsea boss’ comments after his side’s 1-0 defeat to the Gunners.

This weekend Arsenal returned to the summit of the table as Gabriel’s goal earned Mikel Arteta’s side a 1-0 away win at Chelsea.

The priceless three points sees the Gunners pass arguably the biggest test of their title credentials and go two points clear of Manchester City at top of the Premier League.

Graham Potter’s post-match comments

Potter, who replaced Thomas Tuchel at the Chelsea helm in September, was full of praise for Arteta’s side after the game.

The 47-year-old, whose Chelsea side now languishes in seventh, said: “We played against a team in a really good moment and a confident team, so credit to them.

“We have to look at where the two teams are at. Arsenal are in a good moment and have worked together for a long time. We’re in a different phase.

“We lacked quality but the effort was there and we were beaten by the better team today.

“We huffed and puffed but you could see the difference between the two teams in terms of confidence, structure and work together.

“We’re not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end, Arsenal deserved to win because they were the better team overall.

“We have to take that and use it as motivation to improve. Arsenal defend well, they press well and make it difficult for you to create chances.”

Parlour berates Potter

Parlour took issue with Potter’s decision to laud Arsenal for their performance rather than talk about Chelsea.

The former Gunner told talkSPORT: “I listened to the interview after, all he did was talk about Arsenal and how good they are.

“He can’t do that. You’re at Chelsea. This is Arsenal vs Chelsea. Chelsea have won multiple trophies over the years, the standards are so high.

“That’s the problem you’ve got. You can’t be coming out and praising the other team. They didn’t lay a glove on Arsenal.

“How many times did Arsenal nick the ball back when [Chelsea] players were looking up, and there’s no movement?

“There’s no one running in behind. They can nick the ball back and then suddenly you’re back at Chelsea’s back four again.”
